Alexander McQueen: A True Fashion Icon
Alexander McQueen was born in London on March 17th 1969, the youngest of six children. He left school at the age of 16 and was offered an apprenticeship at the traditional Saville Row tailors Anderson and Shephard and then at neighbouring Gieves and Hawkes, both masters in the technical construction of clothing.
From there he moved to the theatrical costumiers Angels and Bermans where he mastered 6 methods of pattern cutting from the melodramatic 16th Century to the razor sharp tailoring which has become a McQueen signature. Aged 20 he was employed by the designer Koji Tatsuno, who also had his roots in British tailoring. A year later McQueen travelled to Milan where he was employed as Romeo Gigli’s design assistant. On his return to London, he completed a Masters degree in Fashion Design at Central Saint Martin’s. He showed his MA collection in 1992, which was famously bought in its entirety by Isabella Blow.
Alexander McQueen shows are known for their emotional power and raw energy, as well as the romantic but determinedly contemporary nature of the collections. Integral to the McQueen culture is the juxtaposition between contrasting elements: fragility and strength, tradition and modernity, fluidity and severity. An openly emotional and even passionate viewpoint is realised with a profound respect and influence for the arts and crafts tradition. Alexander's collections combine an in-depth working knowledge of bespoke British tailoring, the fine workmanship of the French Haute Couture atelier and the impeccable finish of Italian manufacturing.
In less than 10 years McQueen became one of the most respected fashion designers in the world. In October 1996 he was appointed Chief Designer at the French Haute Couture House Givenchy where he worked until March of 2001.
In December 2000, 51% of Alexander McQueen was acquired by the Gucci Group, where he remained Creative Director. Collections include womens ready-to-wear, mens ready-to-wear, accessories, eyewear and fragrance (Kingdom 2003 and MyQueen 2005). Expansion followed and included the opening of flagship stores in New York, London, Milan, Las Vegas and Los Angeles.
The following awards have recognized Alexander McQueen’s achievement in fashion: British Designer of the year 1996, 1997, 2001, and 2003, International Designer of the Year by The Council of Fashion Designer's of America (CFDA) in 2003, A Most Excellent Commander of The British Empire’ (CBE) by her Majesty the Queen in 2003, GQ Menswear Designer of the Year in 2007.
THE FASHION WORLD WILL NEVER BE THE SAME WITHOUT YOU GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN YOUR INNOVATIVE TASTE SHALL LIVE ON FORVEVER! LONG LIVE MCQUEEN!!!!!

Does Def Jam have another hit maker?
Recently freed rapper Shyne has inked a seven-figure deal with Def Jam, according to reports.
According to AllHipHopNews, Def Jam won a bidding war between Dr.Dre. Jimmy Iovine and other labels, for the rights to release Shyne's highly anticipated album, his first since 2004. Shyne is also reportedly being managed by HipHopSince1978, the same company that manages the careers of Drake, Young Jeezy and Lil Wayne.
It’s being reported that Shyne is planning to record his album in London, although he was not allowed entry into the country last week, because of his immigration papers.
This is the second time that Shyne has inked a deal with Def Jam. He signed a seven-figure deal with the label in 2004, although he clashed with CEO LA Reid over the promotion of his album, Godfather: Buried Alive. His first album, Shyne was released in 2000, but his career was brought to a halt in 2001.
Shyne, real name Moses Michael Leviy , was convicted of two counts of assault, reckless endangerment and gun possession, after the high profile 1999 nightclub shooting, which also involved Sean “Diddy” Combs and his then girlfriend, Jennifer Lopez.

"Don't Feed The Models"
Model City, a Centric original series, takes an up-close look at the world of black male models. The reality series follows the lives of four Black and Latino male models of RED Model Management NY, as they work to make a name for themselves, while dealing with the various challenges of “making it” in the female- dominated modeling industry. Models Wendell, Ibrahim, Nelson, and Zeric grant viewers exclusive access into their fast-paced lives, and their never-ending 24/7 grind to become fashion’s elite faces. Just the Beginning...
We’re about to start our OWN movement here in the blogging world. Not only will we be updating you about OURSELVES, but we’ll be giving you our thoughts and opinions on MTV's ABDC Season 5 and other dance shows! We know most of our fans have opinions about dancing so feel free to comment and give us input on your thoughts, too.
With dance crew Southern Movement, ABDC Season 4 was a big break and a place for us to start in the entertainment world. We are grateful for that opportunity and consider that a great accomplishment.
BUT there is way more to Sheri J. (aka Sherita & Jay) than what you think. The two of us met through SoMo and became friends because we had SO much in common and very similar passions.
Dancing is a big part of our life. [Please note:
“hick-hop” was just an experiment.]
What to expect???
We will be posting up some dance videos for your viewing pleasure. We will also be hosting a few webcasts to chat it up with our fans so be looking out for those. Along with all the dance talk, we will be blogging about our favorite artists and their music, the latest fashions, and other cool stuff that we like.
